Schiller International University


Schiller International University is a private American university with five campuses in five countries: London, England; Paris, France; Madrid, Spain; Heidelberg, Germany; and Largo, Florida. Schiller offers Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in a number of areas.

Founded in 1964 by Dr. Walter Leibrecht as a study abroad program for Americans in Germany, it now provides undergraduate and graduate education to students from over 100 countries.

Accreditation

In the United States, Schiller is accredited by the ACICS Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, an accrediting body authorized by the US Department of Education to accredit private post secondary institutions offering programs for careers or professions where business applications or doctrines, supervisory or management techniques, professional or para-professional applications, and other business-related applications support or constitute the career.

In addition, the campuses in Paris, London and Madrid are accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education. The Madrid campus is officially recognized in Madrid by the Consejeria de Educacion. The Heidelberg campus is officially recognized by Kultusministerium Baden-Württemberg.

Academics

Most academic programs are aimed at business. The programs include International Business, Business Administration, International Relations and Diplomacy, Management of Information Technology, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Psychology, Computer Engineering (only on the masters degree level), and Communications.

English is the language of instruction on all campuses. Students may relocate from campus to campus while continuing their academic program providing a unique travel perspective for students. Schiller features the American system of education. Every campus is small, to provide indiviual attention to the students because they come from a wide range of nations.

Financial Aid

The University is approved for Federal and Veterans' training programs, and also offers a limited number of institutional awards to students regardless of citizenship, based on need, academic performance, nationality, and grade level (undergraduate or graduate).

Leadership

The president is Dr. Geoffrey Bannister, who joined the University in September 2008. Prior to this, he served as president and chief academic officer for study abroad provider CEA. managing their network of campuses worldwide for study abroad and academic delivery. Earlier, he was president of The Forum on Education Abroad, the only national membership organization in the United States devoted solely to the needs of study abroad. From 1989 to 2000, he served as the 17th President of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was the catalyst to the development of Butler University's Institute for Study Abroad, and before that as the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Boston University, where he was the principal architect of Boston University's study abroad programs. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto (Canada). His bachelor's and master's degrees were earned at the University of Otago (New Zealand) in Geography.

    I truly believe that we have reached the point where technology has become one with our lives, and I am fairly confident when I say that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.


    I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as technology further develops, the possibility of uploading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could see in my lifetime.

    Great post… Great info on bounce rates… I’ll have to write an entry about the same topic some day soon… Bounce rates can tell you alot…
    I tend to look at the bounce rate and then look at the keywords that brought people to the site. Does the page answer the keyword question? If No then there is some work to do on that or a new more focused post.
